TAMIL CANADIAN WALK 2021 – benefiting The Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack Fund.

We are pleased to announce that the 13th Annual Tamil Canadian Walk will benefit The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. The walk will be virtual and in-person (limited participation) on Sunday, September 12th, at Thomson Memorial Park in Toronto. As a settler community, Tamil Canadians acknowledge the dark history Canada was built on and the continued struggles and injustices experienced by the Indigenous people of this land. Given the recent recoveries of unmarked graves at former residential school sites, Tamil Canadians recognize that we all have a collective responsibility to increase our awareness and understanding of the plight of and take tangible action in partnership with Indigenous communities towards reconciliation.

Inspired by Chanie Wenjack’s story and Gord Downie’s call to build a better Canada, the Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund aims to build cultural understanding and create a path toward reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Funds raised through the Tamil Canadian Walk will support the organization’s goal to improve the lives of Indigenous people by building awareness, education, and connections between all peoples in Canada.

The 2021 Tamil Canadian Walk is a strong #ReconciliACTION answering the call to “Do Something”:

  • Do something to raise further awareness.
  • Do something that improves the lives of Indigenous people.
  • Do something that improves the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people.

ReconciliACTIONs will be the catalyst for important conversations and meaningful change, recognizing that change starts with every one of us, and each person can make an impact.

Your support will help fund the critical work carried out by The Gord Downie & Chanie Wenjack Fund. Long journey ahead. Walk with us! 12
